On Sat, 8th of July 2017 about 1:30 am one of our lawyers of the legal aid team was attacked by several policemen, who grabbed him in his face, twisted his arm and dragged him out of the pre-charge detention centre.

Moments before this lawyer was having a consultation with his client, who afterwords was forced to undress completely. At this time police is increasingly carrying out this type of body-search after detained people had been in contact with their lawyers as well as before. The police legitimizes these measures by suspecting the lawyers of passing on dangerous items to their clients.
As the on-scene lawyer objected this body-search he was physically attacked.
It is already the assumption, that our colleagues would bring dangerous items into the detention centre, that shows all over again how little the police sees the lawyers as agent of the rule of law but as a threat.
In strong terms we condemn this attack against our colleague. Policeforces who physically attack lawyers that represent their clients interests, show an alarming lack of respect for democratic standards.
