After 24 days on hunger strike and three months in prison, Amir Hampay has been released from detention by court order and reunited with his brother, Arash. Khozin Hussein and Bahrooz Arash remain imprisoned, and in deteriorating condition. Arash Hampay and Solidarity Activists Lesvos will continue their hunger strike in solidarity with their call for justice, freedom and dignity. The hunger strikers are calling on activists overseas to show their support by fasting for 24 hours and publicising their action on social media with #freedomstrikelesvos, holding the attached poster. At Mytilini hospital a 19 year old refugee died yesterday. On his tumblr page, Arash Hampay wrote: “I do not know if he died as a result of the stones thrown by the police or from the mistreatment of refugees in Moria by the same police force. It will most likely remain yet another painful and suspicious death.”

Statement from July 21, 2017 by Arash Hampay on Facebook
My brother was released today after three months in Prison.
He was imprisoned for three monthes, disposessed of his freedom, without having committed any crime. Whatever it was, it is over. That part of all the injustices that refugees are forced to go through is over.
Amir was released. I am overwhelmed with joy and happiness. His freedom makes me happier than the time I was freed from Avin Prison. We will keep our promise. Amir is free but Bahrooz Arash and Kozhin Hussein are still in prison. They started their hunger strike at the same time as Arash. Their physical and psychological condition is dangerously bad. They are in Moria Prison. The injustice against them continues. Does the UN really think that Turkey is a safe country for kurds? Why do they continue to imprison those two young guys who are suffering.
As the brother of Amir, I want to express my deepest thanks to my friends at the Legal Center, ….., volunteers and all the lovely people who stod with us. Beloved Gabriela, Kini, Lorraine, Maya, Constanza, Zaid, Santiago and the beloved lawyer of Amir! Accept my deepest thanks. All the people who stood by me! I humbly thank you.
Today is the Day of Solidarity with us hunger strikers for dear Rûnbîr. I think it was the positive energy of that man that contributed to Amirs freedom and this victory. Rûnbîr has been working day and night helping me. Rûnbîr has done all the translation and other work. He has done all that with such kindness. He will hunger strike for 24 hours in solidarity with us. I thank you, beloved Rûnbîr, for your kindness and for your great heart.
I hope and I believe that we shall eat the sweet food of freedom, with the other hunger strikers when they are released. Oppression is destined to fail. I have confidence in that because of the people who are my allies. I have confidence in that because I believe in our rightiousness.
Yes, today Amir was released. We await the freedom of Kozhin and Bahrooz.
