On May 19th we published a report about Croatian police beating refugees during illegal pushbacks from Croatia to Serbia. The violence didn’t stop. In July German association Rigardu, published a report (PDF document) about police violence against refugees in Croatia.
Soul Welders published a statement and pictures on their facebook page. Here is the full statement (Facebook link):
Day by day, the abuses committed by the police against the ones looking for a better future in the border between Serbia and Croatia, are increasing.
Crossing a border clandestinely, hidden in a train wagon, inside a truck container or walking through the forest, is a tough and dangerous experience that, sooner or later, all the refugees have to go through, normally more than once. In addition, sometimes, when they are caught, his belongings are stolen (mostly phones and money) and they are physically abused by the Croatian border police. The frequency and intensity of this episodes have increased alarmingly these last weeks. This cruel reality doesn’t even forget the youngsters, since among the refugees there’re also kids and teenagers.
The evidences of torture and mistreatment accumulate in the eyes of those who work to improve the conditions of the refugees who live badly outside of the camps or those who have tried to cross the border.
These images speak by themselves….
