First NoG20 Court Verdict & Linksunten Ban: Banana Republic Germany Shows Its Ugly Face

After the show of force of Germany’s police state during the G20 summit, the ban on Linksunten Indymedia and todays first court verdict against NoG20 protester: Banana Republic Germany shows its ugly face once again. Tomorrow there will be more trials against NoG20 protesters. Activists call for a solidarity gathering in front of the court tomorrow morning, August 29, and a demonstration to Billwerder prison on September 3.

A 21 year old No G 20 protester was convicted to a 2 years and 7 months jail sentence earlier today. The verdict was much higher as the state prosecuter asked for. The state prosecution demanded a jail sentence of 1 year and 9 months. There was no real evidence against the Dutch comrade. A cop told the court he saw that the 21 year old threw 2 bottles of beer against him after the Welcome to Hell demo on July 6. According to the cop one bottle had hit his helmet, and another one on his leg. The cop had no injuries and could continue his work. According to two cops the 21 year old resisted against his arrest by taking a so-called fetal curl postion. He made himself as small as possible and pulled his arms and legs in front of his chest to protect his body.

His lawyer, Verina Speckin, demanded that her client had to be acquitted. According to Speckin the testifying cops mistook her client for somebody else. As a matter of fact both cops described the person who threw the bottles as a person with dreadlocks, the 21 year old that was convicted today has no dreadlocks.

Our comrade did not say anything to the accusations that were made against him. The only thing he told the court is that he wanted to cook in the peoples kitchen of a protest camp.

Tomorrow there will be more trials against NoG20 protesters. People will start to gather at 10:00am in front of the court at Sievekingplatz in Hamburg, Germany.

At Sunday September 3, 2017, 2:00pm there will be a demonstration to the JVA Billwerder prison in Hamburg. Meeting point: train station (S Bahn) Billwerder/Moorfleet.
