#Catalonia: The #Zaragoza Manifesto

As anarchists we don’t support political parties and we are not enthousiastic about old and new states. Given the repression by the Spanish state and openly fascist tweets by the para military Guardia Civil and more and more fascist gatherings across Spain, we think its important to follow the events in Spain and Catalonia. The repression against the referendum has to stop. We publish the Zaragoza Manifesto to document these developments.

Manifest for freedom, fraternity and coexistence

Those signing below, commited with democracy, freedom, fraternity, dialogue, coexistence and civil, social and national rights, as representatives of millions of citizens of the nations of this State, state that:

The situation of Catalunya’s conflict requires dialogue and democratic political solutions.

The detention of Catalonian public officials, the banning of political meetings and events, police raids on printshops and media offices, the impounding of magazines, prohibition of political campaigning and the storming of the Govern (autonomous government) buildings are destroying community life and the essential underpinnings of democracy and are creating a worrying state of emergency.

Facing this situation of exceptional nature and democratic involution, we deem the commitement with dialogue essential to solve the political conflicts.

We reconvene the Spanish Government to dialogue with the Generalitat and all the political agents to seek democratic political solutions to Catalunya’s conflict. Solutions that allow the citizens to decide their future through an agreed referendum.

We also reconvene the Spanish Government to cease its politics of repression, as these politics threaten fundamental freedoms that are the foundations of democracy. The Government should not stop on October 1st the free expresission of the Catalonian citizens.
