#RefugeesGR: Hesam Shaeri Hesari in Moria Detention for Deportation

Lesvos. Yesterday we reported that one of the hunger strikers, Hesam Shaeri Hesari, was arrested. Today people found out Hesam Shaeri Hesari was brought to the Moria detention center for deportation after his arrest.

The inhuman treatment of people in the European Union is nothing new, but on the outer borders of the EU member states there seems to be no lower limit.

After cops gave conflicting information about the whereabouts of Hesam Shaeri Hesari, first saying they didn’t arrest Hesam Shaeri Hesari, later the cops stated they released him again. But people couldn’t find Hesam and today they found out the cops lied again. Hesam is now detained in the Moria detention center and faces deportation.

Arash Hampay wrote on his Facebook profile today: “We have been informed that Hesam Shaeri Hesari, one of the protesters who was also one of the hunger strikers, was arrested two nights ago by the police in Mytilene. While the police was pretending that they had no information, Hesam is currently in Moria detention for deportation.
Hesam had announced few days ago that in case of facing deportation he will set himself on fire. Hesam is a refugee based on religious persecution, and in the case of deportation to Iran his life will be in grave danger. On Tuesday, November 14, a demonstration outside Moria camp is planned where locals and refugees will demonstrate this injustice.”

Today is the 25th day of protests on Sappho square in Mytilini on Lesvos. A few days later several women joined the hunger strike. They are in hunger strike for 12 days now. Arash Hampay joined earlier this week and today is the 6th day of his hunger strike.
