Hambacher Forest: Resistance Continues – Court Order Forces RWE to Stop Uprooting

Germany: After energy giant RWE started uprooting Hambacher forest yesterday with the assistance of riot cops, the company continued with their enviremental destruction this morning. Activists resisted again. In the afternoon a court ordered a temporary stop of cutting the 300 year old trees in the forest. According to a spokesperson of the court this temporary stop could be for weeks or even months, which gives activists time to organize and mobilize.

Today, a few activists got into the uprooting area in the early morning hours. At 08:18am Roughly 22 cop cars and four security cars where near Deathpop. A few minutes later one of the activists in the uprooting area climbed on a tree.

Shortly before 09:00am barricades that were build on the so-called security street over night, were removed. The cops had a helicopter in the air and shortly after 10:00am the RWE troops were cutting trees about 10 meters (~32.8ft) away from the tree which the one of the activists climbed up before. RWE was consciously putting this human life in danger.

At another point of the forest a group of activists forced the cops to retreat for a while.

More and more cops and RWE securities arrived on the north side of the security street. At 10:30am climbing specialists and regular cops arrived in the cutting area of Hambache forest to evict the activis who was still on one of the trees. At 02:00pm the activist was evicted and released again.

At 12:48pm the green finger of Ende Gelaende activists started to get active. About 2 hours later they try to flow past the police lines to get to the pit (Image below).

Late afternoon the news came out that RWE had to stop cutting trees at 06:00pm. A court ordered a temporary stop of uprooting Hambacher forest. According to a spokesperson of the court the temporary stop could last for weeks or even months.

Activists are aware of the fact that Hambacher forest is still in danger but they can use the additional time to organize and mobilize more resistance. It isn’t over yet! Let’s increase the pressure on RWE and the German state. Organize solidarity protests in your city or come to Hambacher Forrest!

Tomorrow, Wednesday November 29 (08:00pm), there will be an info event about the resistance in the Hambacher forest at the Silberburg in Nürtingen, Germany (Image below).
