#Afrin Attacked With Vehicles and Weapons Made in #Germany

In the past week we published several reports about the repression against actions and demonstrations in Cologne, Dortmund and Hamburg. The German government seems to get more and more nervous. No wonder, many of the arms and military equipment that is being used by the Turkish army was made in Germany. In addition to the Leopard tanks, the Turkish soldiers and gangs are using rifles manufactured by Heckler & Koch and Mercedes vehicles.

Afrin Attacked With Vehicles and Weapons Made in Germany

In the past week we published several reports about the repression against actions and demonstrations in Cologne, Dortmund and Hamburg. The German government seems to get more and more nervous. No wonder, many of the arms and military equipment that is being used by the Turkish army was made in Germany. In addition to the Leopard tanks, the Turkish soldiers and gangs are using rifles manufactured by Heckler & Koch and Mercedes vehicles.

The German government is under pressure because they approved that the Turkish army has been quipped with German-made military equipment from head to toe in the past decades. Even after it was proven that the Turkish state supports ISIS and started a war against the Kurds in the south-east of the Turkish territory, German companies continued to sell military equipment to the Turkish army.

German public TV station ARD broadcasted an episode of the program Monitor titled: “War against Kurds: Made in Germany” (Video below, German). Monitor stated that the licensing rights to the rifles the Turkish soldiers and their gangs attacking Afrin are held by Germany’s prominent weapons manufacturer Heckler & Koch, and added that the firm has received approval from the German government to have the rifles manufactured in Turkey. But that wasn’t all; The program also stated that the military vehicles that transported the Turkish army tanks to the Afrin border were manufactured by German car giant Mercedes. The makers of Monitor also pointed out that the vehicles transporting Turkish soldiers to Afrin are Mercedes’ Unimog model (image at the top).

But German manufacturers didn’t only sell transportation vehicles to the Turkish army. Apart from the German Leopard II tanks that the Turkish army is using to attack Afrin,  the program stated that the M60 tanks the Turkish army is using  are running on motors manufactured by German automotive giants MTU and Renk, and that the artilleries that are used to bomb Afrin also have MTU motors installed.

The program also Leopard II tanks pointed out that the Turkish army works together with groups that Western countries define as “terrorists organizations”, among them are groups that have previously been working together with ISIS. One of these groups, the Ahrar Al Sham organization that is supported by the Turkish state is identified as a “terrorist organization” by the German federal chief prosecuter.

In Germany the same political parties that formed the current government are discussing a new coalition government. This new government has to take a decision about an upgrade of the Leopard II tanks by German manufacturer Rheinmetall. Rheinmetall wants build a factory in Turkey to upgrade the Leopard II tanks and to produce new tanks. The upgrade seems necessary, more and more tanks of the Turkish army are being destroyed by YPJ, YPG and SDF militias (videos below). In Germany there is a growing movment organizing more and more resistance against German arms deals.
