Germany: Actions Against Gentrification in Berlin and Wuppertal
A couple of days ago an action against gentrification was carried out in the Wedding district in Berlin. Several activists decorated a building in the Müllerstraße in Berlin Wedding. The rent for one room in the building will cost between 514 and 1119€. It seems that investors want to expand in Wedding with expensive apartments.
Video from Berlin:
In Wuppertal there were actions against gentrification in the night of February 12 on February 13, 2018 in the south part of the Elberfeld district. Between January 20 and January 24 there were already actions against gentrification. During these first actions more than 70 slogans were sprayed on walls across the northern part of the Elberfeld district. The demands that were sprayed on the walls were that the rents have to go down and that nazis and racists should leave the area. With the slogans, the activists also confessed their “complicity with the G20 prisoners” and demanded the immediate release of the G20 prisoners. The cops estimate that there was a five figure damage. The state security (Staatschutz: Police unite for political “crimes”) investigates.
