Fascist attack against Autonomous Center Kim Hubert in Salzwedel, Germany

On the night of June 5, 2018, shortly after midnight, a hooded and armed group of Neo-Nazis of at least 10 people entered the Kim Hubert Autonomous Center. They went to the second floor, where a few people stayed overnight. Armed with striking tools the Nazis stormed several rooms, where they immediately began to attack people with pepper spray and deliberately smash doors, windows and furniture. In some places we found traces, suggesting the attackers also used an ax. On the way back from the building they systematically destroyed even more windows and Home furnishings. They secured their escape with the ignition of a smoke bomb in the Stairwell.

This action is a new quality of right-wing violence in which Neo-Nazis planned to break into a building, attacking people while they were sleeping and intentionally cause significant damage within five minutes.

A car of a neighbour that was parked in front of the autonomous center was damaged by falling pieces of glass from a smahed window. Left behind were several persons injured by pepper spray and shocked from this inhuman attack while they were were roused from sleep. An escape of the attacked people was difficult because the rooms were full of pepper spray and the use of a smoke bomb in the escape route of the attackers. Such an assault requires massive criminal energy, targeted planning, and great brutality.

We regard the Nazi raid as a reaction to the anti – fascist city march on May 16, 2018, in which we had already drawn attention to the massive right-wing violence in Salzwedel in recent years. This raid joins a long list of massive attacks against the autonomous center (AZ) Kim Hubert and its users, including:

02.02.2010 Storming of the “Infoladens” in AZ by a group of masked Nazis, during an anti-fascist information event about the Nazi march in Dresden.

12.05.2011: Arson attack against the AZ with several incendiary devices, two days before a Nazi march in Salzwedel.

12.01.2016 Arson attack against the AZ, in which a sofa in a room catches fire. Immediate extinguishing by people in the house could prevent worse.

We urge all people in Salzwedel to join forces with us against the Nazi terror. We are not intimidated. That night hit us, but the problem concerns us all, because no one knows who will be next.
