On the night of July 3, 22 year old Aboubakar was killed by cops in the Breil district in Nantes. Heavy clashes broke out after the police murder. Here is a communiqué by the assembly of those injured by the police.
Note: Enough is Enough is not organizing any of these events, we are publishing this text for people across the US and Europe to be able to see what is going on and for documentation only.
On the night on Tuesday July 3, a young man, Aboubakar, died. Aboubakar, 22, was shot dead by a CRS cop at Breil, north of Nantes.
While driving, a shot in his neck took his life. All the direct witnesses who where at the scene speak of a “point blank” shooting whereas there was no danger for the police forces.
The assembly of those injured recalls:
1- That the events of the Breil dramatically lengthen the record of damages caused by the police in Loire-Atlantique. In a few months, this is the second death in Nantes during a police operation. In addition, three protesters were severely injured in the face during the spring protests. A protester had his hand torn off the ZAD of Notre-Dame-des-Landes. Several hundred others were injured to varying degrees by the weapons of repression. Our region has become a real laboratory of police violence.
2 – That the use pf live ammunition has become normal. A recent IGPN report mentions a 54% increase in shootings by police in 2017. This is a significant development, directly related to the “presumption of self-defense” which police officers are now allowed to. It is in this context that Bubakar was shot. The feeling of presumption of a policeman can therefore stop a life at any time.
3- That the drama of Breil is the consequence of the militarization of the maintenance of order. For 20 years, the new repressive arsenal has been used by policemen to aim, fire, press on the trigger and reach their human targets. With the Flash-Ball, then the LBD 40, the act of firing at individuals, which was previously exceptional, became commonplace. Nowadays, more and more frequently, firearms replace rubber bullets.
4- That the shooter is one of the many CRS cops that the mayor of Nantes, Johanna Rolland, asked for when she asked for reinforcements last September. Since then, these numbers, in excess, are multiplying the patrols, the violence, the controls in the popular districts, and the repression of the demonstrations.
Last but not least, the assembly of those injured by the police sends all its support to the relatives of Bubakar and calls for the end of the impunity and the militarization of the police.
