The Italian minister of interior Salvini from the fascist Lega party, keeps playing with the lives of refugees. During the night hours 450 refugees were crammed in a wooden boat in international waters. Although the refugees are rescued now, Salvini threatens to send them back to Libya.

A ship operated by EU border agency Frontex and a vessel owned by Italy’s tax police finally rescued the refugees near the Italian island of Linosa and more than 100 nautical miles from Malta, which rejected pressure from Italian minister of interior Salvini on Friday to rescue them.
France and Malta offered to take 100 (50 to each of the two EU member states) of the rescued refugees, but there is no confirmation that other EU member states will also receive some of the refugees that are trapped on two ships now, because Italy and Malta are not giving permission to the ships to enter any of their harbours.
The power struggle between nationalists and fascists of several EU member states is again fought on the back of people seeking refuge. In the past months several private rescue ships were not allowed to sail out to rescue people anymore.
+++Statement of Urgency+++
During the night (13-7-18) #Malta and #Italy discussed who is responsible for a refugee boat with 450 people in immediate danger and distress.

Finally, in the morning, the Guardia di Finanza and FRONTEX rescued the people between #Lampedusa and Linosa.
By that time 9 people had to be medically evacuated. The last was a 20 year old woman weighing only 40kg.

Italy now wants to push the people back to #Libya, which would be a breach of international law. It says that it would only let the survivors enter a Port of Safety in Italy if other states accept to then take the people.

We demand that the people are immediately allowed to enter #Italy as it is the closest Port of Safety. @mitgov
We demand active search and rescue capabilities to resume rescuing people in distress rather than shifting responsibility to others. @MaltaGov

We demand that discussions about EU #migration policy is not bargained on the back of those vulnerable at sea. #Salvini #Seehofer
We demand that civil rescue assets are immediately released in order to conduct SAR activities. @MaltaGov#right2rescue #FreedomOfMovement
