Dutch territory: This December its 10 years ago that 15 year old Alexis was shot dead by police in Athens. In this context and the month long revolt that followed a poster was made, printed and spread. We publish this article as part of our 10 years after police murder on Alexis series.

Originally published by Autonomen Den Haag. Translated by Enough is Enough.

Note: Enough is Enough is not organizing any of these events, we are publishing this text for people across the US and Europe to be able to see what is going on and for documentation only.

You will find the all articles of our series 10 years after police murder on Alexis: here.

The poster is not only meant to commemorate Alexis but especially to spread the fire of the revolt and the power of self-government. Let the fire spread!

Below the text of the poster and above the possibility to download it:

On December 6, 2008 15 year old Alexis Grigoropoulos was shot dead by the fascist Greek police in the Exarchia district of Ahens. His death was the straw that broke the camel’s back for many youth in Greece. At the evening after his death a revolt started that lasted for one month across the country. massive demonstrations took place, heavy riots and a general insurrection.

The revolt eliminated the control by the state over certain districts and people found a new world in their hearts. Everday life was rejected a new life was started and build-up. Without any negotiation with the state of any demand to whatever politician. The apathy and despair that seem to dominate in the months before seem to have disappeared. People felt free to experiment with a free and solidary world.

Betweeen the petrol bombs and stones the Greek youth raised their voices: “We are an image from the future”. The future is unknown for everybody. Even for those who claim that they have made a plan, line or strategy for their perfect utopia. But during a revolt twilights and blurred images of what could be show up: fragments of a new world. By the subversion of everyday life and the direct confrontation with the state and capital the old world becomes unthinkable and a new world subsumable. Like the graffiti on walls in Athens saying: “After all of this we do not return to our jobs?”
