Prisoners in struggle, Adrián Gómez Jiménez and Juan de la Cruz Ruíz, members of the organization, the Voice of Indigenous Resistance, adherents of the Sixth Declaration of the Lacandon Jungle of the EZLN. Jailed in Prison No. 5, San Cristóbal de las Casas, Mexico.
This past March 15th we raised our voices initiating a hunger strike to demand justice and our absolute freedom, because we are victims of torture and because there are anomalies in our cases. Afterwards seven more people joined the hunger strike.
Through negotiations with our family members, an agreement was reached with the Secretary of Government Ismael Brito Maariegos, that we end our hunger strike. We have not ended it, but rather carried out an act of good faith in fasting only to eat every third day fruits and vegetables, egg whites and tortillas. We fast for two days with just honey and water, then we eat every third day.
This past April 15th we ingested the above mentioned, and today Sunday April 21st, we are on the third day of ingesting fruit. We will eat again on Wednesday the 24th and so on until the 20 days that were part of the agreement have passed.
We want to emphasize that we continue in this fight and we continue resisting. We also want to emphasize that seven people more have joined the strike. The two organizations have two strategies of struggle. We, the Voice of Indigenous Resistance, eat every three days. The other organization eats once a day for three days and on the fourth day they eat normal. All seven people are prisoners in struggle.
We invite the independent organizations and the defenders of human rights to continue demanding true justice.
From prison No. 5, San Cristóbal de las Casas, Chiapas, Mexico. As the organization, The Indigenous Voice of Resistance, we send a combative salute to all of the independent organizations and the compañerxs in struggle and resistance throughout the world against the bad governments.
United our voices and forces, the Mexican people will achieve true justice.
Respectfully,
Adrián Gómez Jiménez
Juan de la Cruz Ruíz
