DEMONSTRATION  AGAINST THE DEPORTATION CENTER AND THE VIOLENCE ALONG THE BALKAN ROUTE

Gradisca (GO), Italy

NO DEPORTATION CENTERS!
NO BORDERS!
STOP THE VIOLENCE ALONG THE BALKAN ROUTE!

Migrants migrate by necessity.
The crossing of borders is made purposely dangerous and illegal for some people in order to have exploitable subjects.
Deportation centers are actually lagers: they guarantee a tool of blackmail against undocumented people to those who exploit them.

In 1998, the first deportation centers were built in Italy; in the past 20 years, all the major political parties accepted and implemented them. In Gradisca d’Isonzo (GO, Italy), the government is re-building a deportation center (CPR), the opening is due between June and September 2019.

The future of EU external borders becomes crystal clear if you read 2021-2027 estimated European budget: 21.3 billion euros have been allocated for border control. It’s 162 times more than what Croatia got since 2014 to violently push-back migrant people; it’s 3.4 times more than what the dictator Erdoğan got with the 2016 EU-Turkey maxi-agreement.

A few hours drive from the Italian border, along the Balkan route, everyday thousands of people risk their lives trying to reach Europe: European police and border patrol violently push them back.

The border-traps and the deportation centers are part of the same mechanism. This mechanism seeks to make foreign labor more exploitable by local businesses, it creates divisions among workers and it is an instrument to build political fortunes for right wing political forces. This mechanism causes death and hatred.

We must start building an inclusive, welcoming, and supportive society; we need to ask ourselves about the causes of migration and act accordingly. It will never be possible to do so without destroying the chains that serve to divide us, like the deportation center being built in Gradisca.

If all the people who oppose racism acted concretely to block the activation of the deportation center, this lager would never open.
