#Bern: “Pussy, pussy, son of a bitch?!” A critique about the behavior of some people during the night of rage

Bern, Swiss territory: It is nice to get on the police’s nerves, as on Saturday May 18 around the Reitschule (riding school) in Bern. To remind them that they are not welcome, that their violent and repressive work is not accepted and that we resist.

We think it’s shit that people are disrespectful and behaving like shot callers. Ordering others to take up a lot of space and ruthlessly shouting at uninvolved people is macker-ism. We think that’s shitty and it’s hard for us to fight together with such people. That is why we wrote this text.

Different people are resistant. We consider it important to think about who occupies how much space and what is being said and done from which position. Resistance can be very diverse. If actions are dominated by macker-ism behaviour, this means that others are repressed. In such moments society is mirrored as well, so it is necessary to be self-critical and to act.

The police don’t deserve any respect, we agree on that. Whoever uses “son of a bitch” as an insult does not insult the other person but sex workers and their children. Sex work is a job like any other. Also to describe people insultingly as “pussy, pussy” is shit. A pussy is not an insult, but a part of the body of many people. To use “pussy” as an insult degrades this body part and thus becomes part of the oppression of people with pussies.

We also want to express criticism on ourselves. As participants, we are aware that events like last Saturday can mean stress for people who happen to be there. For example, the presence of the police and the checks associated with the action pose a risk to undocumented migrants. We would like to look at how, for example, we can involve people who are exposed to racist police controls on a daily basis in advance.

This text is not a concluding discussion about different forms of action and mechanisms of oppression. We look forward to other contributions and further discussions.

We are a group with different gender identities, backgrounds and stories and are happy to fight together with other pussies and children of sex workers against the police and all the rest of the daily shit!

See you next time…
