Former Basque city councillor Nekane Txapartegi, who had to flee to Switzerland in 2007, is still threatened with deportation to the Spanish state. Last month Nekane has to testify in Bern. On June 8 there was a demo in solidarity with Nekane in Zürich (Swiss territory).

400 people, mostly women, showed their solidarity with Nekane Txapartegi yesterday (June 8, 2019) in Zurich. Almost a week before the women strike, they made their demand clear: Stop the political persecution of survivors of sexualised torture. The demonstration went from Limmatplatz along Langstrasse to Helvetiaplatz.
The Basque feminist Nekane Txapartegi had been severely tortured in the Spanish state in 1999. The credibility of her allegations of torture has already been confirmed in Switzerland by the federal court and the federal administrative court. Nevertheless, she is again subject to political persecution by the Spanish state, which is again based on the statements forced under torture.
As a survivor of sexualized torture, Nekane also became an important voice in Switzerland in the fight against sexist violence. This is why the women of the Zurich strike collective protested against political persecution and violence against women and for a free, self-determined life after their last networking meeting before the women strike.
