As the government announced an end to the use of pellets, another young man was directly hit in the head by a teargas bomb. We publish the communiqué of the family and friends of Vicente Hernández, who suffered a skull fracture and loss of brain mass on November 18.

Within the context of the social protest that has been taking place in the streets of Chile since October 18, 2019, where the people have come out to demand concrete solutions to the profound inequalities in which we find ourselves and to which the government of Sebastián Piñera has responded with brutal repression, we want to denounce the criminal attitude of the special forces under the protection of the government, which have been responsible for murders, rapes and mutilations.
In this context, we denounce the brutal aggression of which our comrade and friend Vicente Hernández was a victim on Monday, November 18 at 7 p.m. in the vicinity of the Violeta Parra Museum, where a teargas bomb struck his head, fracturing his skull and leaving him unconscious, a situation taken advantage of by Special Forces to try to arrest him, pulling his arms to lift him up, which is the reason why our comrade suffered several convulsions, before the Special Forces left him abandoned.
Under these conditions Vicente Hernández was taken to the SAMU emergency point located in the gallery of Cine Arte Alameda by other demonstrators, where he received first aid, and then he was transferred to Posta Central emergency station.
There, after a long and complex operation, the family and friends were told that Vicente Hernandez effectively suffered a skull fracture, with loss of encephalic mass, which resulted in various neurological sequelae.
As a family and as friends we are extremely saddened by the situation Vicente finds himself in, but we also have the strong conviction that justice must be done, both for him and for all those who have suffered from the criminal actions of the Chilean State.
Because of the above, we ask for maximum diffusion of the situation Vicente Hernandez is going through, at the same time that we will present a lawsuit against the State and those who are responsible, since we believe that the people have the right to protest to demand their rights and that any act of criminalization and repression on the part of the State cannot go unpunished.
We deeply support the social demands that the people are claiming in the streets and we reject the criminal actions of the government of Sebastián Piñera Echeñique and DEMAND A TRIAL AND PUNISHMENT.
Relatives and friends of Vicente Hernández.
