Saturday, May 16, and Sunday, May 17
from 10:00 to 17:00 both days
Submission forms for tables, events, and workshops are now available on our website at www.anarchistbookfair.ca.
Our event will take place in two buildings facing each other across parc Vinet: the Centre d’éducation populaire de la Petite-Bourgogne et de St-Henri (CÉDA), 2515 rue Delisle, and the Centre culturel Georges-Vanier (CCGV), 2450 rue Workman. The nearest métro station is Lionel-Groulx.
As in recent years, there will be the kids’ zone, chiller spaces, and a room for commemoration and grief.
Please let us know if you can volunteer this year! If you can write us an email with the word “volunteer” or “bénévole” in the subject line, that would be great. In the months, weeks, and days leading up to the bookfair, we will need people who can translate copy, help us publicize the event, and commit to doing one or two of the things that the bookfair needs in order to work. During the bookfair itself, we will need help in the kids’ zone, at the welcome table, in the kitchen, setting up and clearing out, at the perimeter of our event, and elsewhere. In any case, we’d love to be in touch ahead of time.
Where appropriate, we strongly encourage crews of friends to take on shifts together. Please consider asking some of the people in your life if they’d want to take charge of, for example, the welcome table for an hour, or childcare, or technical support. We would love to see some boys who can cook in the kitchen and some feminists who can fight doing security, but the most important thing is all sorts of folks doing what they can.
Of special note is our need for whisper translators (that is, live interpreters) from French to English, from English to French, and from and to other languages as well (Spanish, Arabic, Hindi, Mandarin, sign language etc.). If you are capable of providing this service and willing to do so, please write us an email with “whisper translation” or “traduction simultanée” in the subject line. We would be pleased to know your linguistic competencies (including variety), the sorts of topics that interest you, and your availabilities during the bookfair weekend.
Do not hesitate to contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org with questions, concerns, and critiques. We also appreciate compliments and large donations. 😉
The Montreal Anarchist Bookfair organizing collective acknowledges that our event takes place on the traditional territory of the Kanien’kehá:ka, the keepers of the Eastern Door of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy. The island called “Montreal” in English is known as Tiohtià:ke in the language of the Kanien’kehá:ka, and it has historically been a meeting place for other Indigenous nations, including the Algonquin peoples. We also want to speak the presently unfolding situation in Wet’suwet’en territory, where the Royal Canadian Mounted Police have begun their long-planned attack against the defenders of the land and water. We strongly encourage people to keep abreast of where, when, and how people in their locality intend to respond.
