Call for an emergency demonstration in support of Indigenous communities facing police interventions throughout so-called Canada.
This Monday morning, February 24, the Ontario Provincial Police intervened to end the blockade of Tyendinaga in Mohawk territory. At the same time, the RCMP entered Unist’ot’en territory, thereby increasing its police presence across so-called Canada.
The objective of the various blockades is to support Wet’suwet’en, which, since 2009, has been protecting its territory by setting up camps (Unist’ot’en and Gidimt’en) to prevent access for the construction of various pipeline projects. Since 2018, TC Energy’s $6 billion Coastal GasLink project (formerly TransCanada) has included the construction of a 670-kilometre pipeline from Dawson Creek to the port town of Kitimat. This pipeline is a central component of LNG Canada’s liquefied natural gas port terminal. This terminal represents the largest investment project in Canadian history – $40 billion – by multinational oil and gas giants, including Shell and PetroChina.
Under Wet’suwet’en (‘Anuc niwh’it’en) law, each Wet’suwet’en clan has complete jurisdiction over their territory. The five clans are unanimous. The pipeline projects will not go through: no consent has been given.
Let’s support Wet’suwet’en in the face of the colonial brutality of the Canadian state!
Let’s show the state that police brutality will not pass. Let’s answer the solidarity call launched by Wet’suwet’en: #ShutDownCanada!
