#RefugeesGR, #COVID19: Cars of Hope postpones departure to #Lesvos

Statement by the Cars of Hope collective.

Originally published by Cars of Hope. Translated by Enough 14.

Today was the day we were supposed to depart. But the way governments deal with the corona virus made us decide to postpone our departure.

Due to a decision by the Greek government, the accommodation where we wanted to stay on Lesbos had to be shut down this morning. The decision by the Greek government affects all accommodation that is also used by the tourist industry. As more and more countries close their borders, or put people arriving in quarantine, the situation is increasingly unpredictable.

We will be on stand-by and travel to Greece as soon as the situation changes. Because the people who are stuck on the islands need our support more than ever. It was a difficult decision and we will keep in touch with people on the ground and in the meantime we will see what we can do from here. Please do not forget the people at the EU borders. They need our solidarity. We will keep you updated.

Solidary and sad greetings, Cars of Hope, March 15, 2020.

As soon as the situation allows (due to Corona restrictions by several EU governments) the Cars of Hope collective will travel to Greece  again to support refugees. They need your support to continue their work. Read their statement here.
