Vendée. France. April 8, 2020. Helicopter, military and cabin fires during the “health emergency”! The authorities will stop at nothing. For several months now, a mobilization has been organized against the destruction of a beach in Brétignolles, to build a useless “marina” for the privileged in the Vendée region. Several demonstrations have brought together hundreds of people, and people have been occupying the site for months.

On Wednesday, April 8, the prefecture took advantage of the lockdown to take over the occupied land and evict the inhabitants. No less than 15 cop vehicles with reinforcements, a helicopter and units of the “gendarmerie intervention unit” were on site. Fifteen people were arrested.
City Hall immediately sent the city’s technical services to set fire to the cabins, in a rather terrifying petainist spirit, under the watchful eye of the police. No need for an eviction note! Macron had promised an extension of the winter truce …
This repressive deployment against environmentalist opponents is obscene in the midst of a health crisis. All the more because due to the lockdown, it was impossible for the evictees to receive support. Here is the press release from the “ZAD de la dune”:
Eviction in full lockdown, it’s ACABlant!!!
In full lockdown, on Wednesday April 8th, ZAD de la Dune was evicted in the early evening, with the help of gendarmes, PSIG, helicopters and drones… Our 15 comrades present on the spot were kettled in the fields and then taken away at about 6:30 pm for identity checks and are in the process of getting out of different police stations. They find themselves on the street in the middle of the night and far from any support.
Around 8 pm, the city’s technical services burned the cabins with all the personal belongings inside!! The converted trucks, 4 dogs, 1 cat, 20 chickens, 1 duck and Elizadeth our sow are sent to the pound. It is inadmissible to take advantage of the state of health emergency to launch such operations.
While the government’s priority should be health, the state is paying the price (i.e. we) for a military operation at a time when there is a lack of basic masks to protect care workers and the population! As a reminder, a helicopter flight already costs 4000€ per hour.
Since we refuse the construction of this infamous and elitist port as well as all industrial projects, since we refuse the pandemic coup d’état that will follow the coronavirus crisis, since the world they draw is to vomit, as soon as the confinement is over, we call for a festive reoccupation of the ZAD de la Dune! Until then, let’s use barrier gestures and don’t forget that the beach is under the cobblestones!
Henri Philippe Benoni Omer Joseph Pétain (24 April 1856 – 23 July 1951), generally known as Philippe Pétain or Marshal Pétain (Maréchal Pétain) was a French general officer who attained the position of Marshal of France at the end of World War I, during which he became known as Le Lion de Verdun (The Lion of Verdun), and in collaboration with Nazi Germany, served as the Chief of State of Vichy France from 1940 to 1944. Pétain, who was 84 years old in 1940, ranks as France’s oldest head of state. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philippe_P%C3%A9tain
