#QC: Montrealers Create Memorial for Deceased Prisoner, Call for Action

24 May, Montreal – At 2pm today, a caravan of over 30 vehicles visited the Bordeaux jail in Montreal, creating a memorial for the deceased prisoner, Robert Langevin, and calling for immediate and significant actions to keep prisoners and communities safe. The memorial included a message from Mr. Langevin’s sisters, while the vehicles, decorated with slogans such as “Prisons Kill” and “Free All Prisoners,” honked their horns, made noise, and held banners in solidarity with those inside.

The new reality

Someone once said that the oppressibility of humans knows no limits. Humans are creatures of habituation and after a short shock, they seem to be able to adapt and get used to any condition, no matter how humiliating and oppressive it may be. A world population under quarantine, governing by state of emergency, bans on all social life – and after a few weeks it almost feels normal. One gets used to the restrictions – to home office as well as to the loss of freedom of movement. In this hard hour we close ranks, show understanding and pay respect to the Chancellor, that she places the protection of health above the protection of the economy…

Rupture Spring 2020: The sickness came long before the virus

Well here it is – the lockdown edition of Rupture. Notable for the fact that in the 20 years of publication this is the first issue not to be printed as a hard copy. This has come with its benefits – we can use colour images, don’t have to design in blocks of four pages (for folding purposes uh-huh), didn’t have to agonise about fitting all the text and imagery into the layout and well, there aren’t any listings to collate. It’s also rare for the zine to have a theme – but quite frankly it’s kind of nice doing things a different way for a change.

#Amsterdam: The continuation of eradication policy of Free Spaces

Amsterdam. Wednesday morning we had a meeting with the relevant officials talked about the Slibvelden (sludge fields) and the end date of November 1 that is imposed us. We entered the conversation with the hope that Erna Berends (City District chairman Amsterdam North, SP) that we could find mutual ground in our stay on the sludge fields. We left this digital meeting trembling from the reconfirmation that nevertheless all beautiful slogans and open conversations Amsterdam is stuck in their extermination policy free space.
