Athens. Just one day after cops terrorized Exarcheia, they continued their assaults on Victoria square. Greek police brutally attacked homeless refugees who were send away from the Moria camp on Lesvos. Among the attacked refugees were many women and children, the cops were trying to force them to Amygdaleza camp.
On Saturday 4th July around 12 midnight riot police made their appearance in Victoria Square in order to transfer the migrants living there to the Amygdaleza detention centre with the excuse being the insufficient and unhealthy living conditions at the square. After the migrants’ refusal to leave and the interventions of solidarians who had gathered at the spot, the cops violently attempted to take people into the police transportation vans. They took approximately 10 people, some of whom were immediately released, the transportation van left while other police vans remained in front of the OTE building.
After a while and as the migrants had calmed down a bit and as the solidarians were starting to leave, riot police appeared from all sides of the square and attacked everyone, holding more than 20 people they randomly found on the nearby streets, hitting and dragging them to the vans.
At the same time, additional forces of riot police entered the square, hit the people there and tried to send them away towards the 3rd Septemvriou and Patission Street as their plan was to fully evacuate the square. The migrants left injured without their belongings and scattered around the city centre. 22 people have been taken into custody in the police station of Kypseli. Among them there is one person with a dislocated shoulder and a woman separated from her children, who remained in the square.
At the time of writing, migrants have returned to the square while the streets towards the police station of Kypseli are blocked by police motorcycles.

Here is some footage from last night dealing with the police in Victoria who were threatening to take the people sleeping there to another camp. Us in solidarity with the refugees were treated with a lot of violence, I personally watched the police kicking women who had made a circle around the people they tried to take and beating men with batons. They were randomly just grabbing men and taking them away! 23 comrades were taken and 4 still remain at the police station.
I can’t help but imagine my Dad being there are getting angry at the police for how they were treating me and then to watch him getting beaten and taken away. The screams of the terrified children and babies will stay with me.
The resilience I witnessed was just incredible, women half my size screaming into the face of the cops asking to be left alone without fear. Even though the cops here are terrorists, I saw it for myself. This phone was taken by the cop who was directing the beatings of the comrades and telling people ‘You’re next’ with a big smirk on his face. He made me delete these videos and then gave me the phone to later restore them.
It’s still taking some time to process, looking at these cops in the eyes and asking them how can they sleep at night with no reaction… Nothing just a smile. Once again I’m feeling angry, sad, the families sleeping here are threatened with this happening every night.
