In the predawn hours, the smoke along 22nd Avenue was so thick it was impossible to see anything more than half a block away except the flashing lights of fire trucks. Smoke was rising from what remained of the Department of Corrections building. Daylight revealed that the building had been reduced to rubble.
On one wall still standing is “my black skin is not a crime” spray painted on the side.
“Our futures have been looted … LOOT BACK!” read another tag.
Blake’s father has reported that his son is now paralyzed from the waist down following the shooting.
