Press release 16.11.2020 +++ Dannenrod forest occupation: another accident, again police cut a rope +++ Activist falls five meters into safety device +++ Police admit that they are to blame for yesterday’s incident with the tripod rope +++

Dannenrod, Germany, 16.11.2020. According to a press release from the police (https://www.presseportal.de/blaulicht/pm/148303/4764158 ), they are now admitting that they are responsible for yesterday’s accident, in which an activist fell about four meters from a tripod and sustained injuries in her lower back.

After they spent the day yesterday in public media to distance themselves from the incident in which they cut the safety rope of a human being, they now admit, after the responsible policeman had expressed himself that they are clearly and substantially responsible for the accident and present themselves furthermore as conflict solution-oriented humans instead of ignorant officials.

The fact that the operation can end deadly has already been made clear by previous actions by the police. However, this did not stop them from continuing to act disproportionately and in a way that endangers humans in the forest. This was clearly shown today when a tree was felled that was still connected to a horizontal traverse rope in which an activist was climbing. When the tree fell, the truss tore and the person fell 5 meters in a pendulum fall. By his own safety precautions, this person was not only secured with a carabiner in the truss (which is the SRT standard and could have led to fatal injuries in this case), but additionally with a clamping knot. This was the only reason why the person did not hit the ground.

Video of the incident:

Activist Leonie says: “It is incomprehensible to see how state power is acting against the people here and apparently willingly endangers the health of the activists massively. Two years ago a person died during the eviction of Hambach Forest – is the A49 really worth human lives? The assertions on the part of the police that “safety before speed” is more important during the eviction are ridiculous. Anyone who then calls himself “transparent, impartial and critical” in statements can really no longer be taken seriously. We demand the police to stop their operation immediately and finally stop endangering human lives for their dirty work”.

We call on the police to leave the forest immediately.
