Building on the Archimedeslaan resquatted [Utrecht, Netherlands]

Utrecht. Netherlands. On October 1, 2021, exactly 11 years after the Kraken en Leegstand (squatting and vacancy) law came into force, the buildings on the Archimedeslaan 16 were resquatted. The squatters protested against the continuing vacancy of the former student housing. Although the law should prevent vacancy, the vacancy rate has only increased since then. This while squatting and the squatting movement have been criminalized and prosecuted.

Repression at the demonstration against the covid certificate – “Against the compulsory certificate, against the far-right” [Geneva, Switzerland]

Geneva. Switzerland. On the 1st of October at 6pm a demonstration against the covid certificate was called for in front of Uni Mail in Geneva. The front banner read “against the compulsory certificate, against the far- right”. A clear slogan for a moment of mobilization following the day of strike against the covid certificate launched by several cultural and meeting places. No Nazis in the streets but dozens and dozens of cops, with everything that is available in terms of repressive gear. At this stage we don’t have an overview to describe the force involved, but we counted about ten vans, the same number of motorcycle cops and at least a hundred riot cops.

Migrants in camps and detention centres in Greece – A political analysis

The Greek state has a long tradition in the racist management of refugees and migrants within it. The on going war and poverty in the Middle East and Africa (to which the Greek state actively contributes), the exclusion and exploitation policies, as well as ecological disaster, are forcing hundreds of thousands of people to seek a better future in Europe.
The planning of the European Union, however, holds a nightmarish future for them, with the Greek state being behind the expansive military interventions and at the forefront of the war against migrants on the European territories.

Panic buying in the UK: The chicken’s come home to roost (but will the Turkeys get a reprieve at Christmas?)

UK. The present crisis which has seen panic buying, particularly of petrol but also of the usual ‘panic’ commodities such as toilet roll and pasta, shows how vulnerable capitalism actually is. It exposes how the system is dependent upon a logistics workforce that potentially holds a great deal of power, should it choose to use it. And, in part, this crisis is a product of workers’ rejection of an increasingly stressful and badly paid occupation.
