Press Release Cars of Hope August 06, 2022
Wuppertal. Germany. On August 16, activists of Cars of Hope will drive to Ukraine again. It will be their fourth aid delivery in the war-torn country. They will bring necessary goods like Tourniquets, IFAK -First Aid Kits, Burnshield Rescue Kits (für die Versorgung von Brandwunden), face masks for burn care, Israeli Emergency Bandages, medicines and other items that are needed in Ukraine. Cars of Hope will first drive to Kyiv and then to Kharkiv.
Translated by Riot Turtle.
The activists are confident that the fourth aid delivery will be a success again. One of the activists, René Schuijlenburg, says: „We brought a lot of medicines, medical equipment, food and other aid that is needed in Ukraine during the first three aid transports.“
The group from Wuppertal is supported by people from other cities. Schuijlenburg says: “We always drive with solid teams. Some people of these teams come from other cities. They know each other well and are well prepared.“
In Juli a group of Cars of Hope completed a tactical medical training in Kyiv. Schuijlenburg: „Of course we hope that we never gave to use the skills we learned there. But since the russian army invaded Ukraine everything is possible. We learned first aid measures for different kind of bullet wounds, what to do and what not to do of somebody has phosphor particulates on his or her skin. And of course the usual first aid skills.“
Often its difficult to follow discussions in Germany when he returns to Wuppertal. Schuijlenburg: In May we were only a few streets away froma russian rocket attack on Lviv. Bäng! Bäng! Bäng! A blackout followed for several hours. In June a russian rocket was taken out above our heads. When you drive through the Butcha district, you see destruction everywhere. Especially in residential neighbourhoods. And than you come back to Germany and hear that ‘we’ also have to understand the russian state. We are talking about a war of agression by the russian state on Ukraine. I have no words for something like that, but I do understand that people in Ukraine want to defend themselves.“
Many people support the aid transports to Ukraine. Schuijlenburg concludes: “Our work wouldn’t be possible without the support of so many people. Medical equipment and medicines are desperately needed in Ukraine. Especially near the front lines. That’s why we will drive to Kharkiv in August. We want to thank all people that support our work.”
