Riot Turtle: Preparing the next stage of the social war

Wuppertal. German territory. May 26. 2020. So now the so-called contact bans are eased more and more. They never existed at most work places anyway, only social life was completely killed by the German state. And now parts of the state of emergency are being eased again. That’s actually not surprising as the whole show, the prelude, the first act and the now started second act, was performed to protect the economy. That might sound strange, but it isn’t.

Riot Turtle: “Ritualized protests are not something our rulers are worried about”

The COVID-19 outbreak is a time-mark. A pre-revolutionary phase, the only thing we do not know yet in which direction things will turn. At the moment the cards are sorted and shuffled, and when the German left dont want to be crushed by the (far) right, some things need to be changed.

Amsterdam 1980: The Battle for the Vondel Street squat: A Vondel Bridge too far [Video]

Amsterdam in the 1980’s, there was always something going on, not one day without some kind of action. The smell of revolt was in the air. There was an enormous housing shortage. The waiting time for an apartment was at least 10 years. They were mostly allocated through a distribution system of the city administration. Apartments on the “free” market were unaffordable. Young people either had to stay with their parents as adults, leave the city, or squat. At the peak of the Amsterdam squatter movement, about 22,000 people lived in squatted houses.

Riot Turtle after #Moria burned down to the ground: “When European politicians speak about freedom, they speak about their freedom to repress non-Europeans.”

The atrocities on the Balkanroute and the Mediterranean Sea are happening on a daily basis for years now and everybody in Europe knows it. Now Moria burned down to the ground, and it was not an accident. A personal account on the Balkanroute: Appealing to European politicians doesn’t make sense.

Riot Turtle: “Are the remaining antagonistic splinters able to connect with those who are subjected to racial profiling and police brutality on a daily basis?”

I never was an optimist, but the current cycle of revolts is inspiring and even some developments in this country, Germany, have the potential to grow. As a result there might be more antagonistic actions.

Police violence during demo against new state assembly law in Düsseldorf: Business as usual [Germany]

On Saturday german cops once again showed their ugly face. Riot cops, flood lights, a helicopter in the air. In a park in Hamburg. For months now cops are attacking youths in parks and neighbourhoods, major parts of the left react with a deafening silence. In this scenario nobody should be surprised that the cops went after people after one of the most innocent demos that I ever went to: the Osterhoplz Bleibt demo in Wuppertal on June 12. The state doesn’t need actions in self-defense to protect a demo as justification for repression. The fact that the forest occupation in Osterholz and other actions for the forest are putting more and more pressure on municipal and state authorities is reason enough for the state to react with repression. On Saturday the cops didn’t only went after youths in Hamburg. In Düsseldorf the cops attacked a demonstration against the new state (anti) assembly law. The outrage was huge after the police attacks in Düsseldorf, that was perhaps the real surprise for me. Police violence is nothing unusual, the repressive state forces are structurally violent. Ask the surplus proletarian youths in your city. They know violent police practices like racial profiling, deportations and general harassment too well. People get beaten up by cops regurlarly. Düsseldorf was not an exception, it was business as usual.

Corona Riots in the Netherlands: “The government has stolen millions from families, they have destroyed families”

Riot Turtle

Since last weekend, there has been unrest in the Netherlands. In Urk, fascists and lateral thinkers burned down a Corona test street on Saturday. In Amsterdam and Eindhoven, riots broke out on Sunday after far-right groups like PEGIDA-NL and lateral thinkers (1) called for demonstrations against the curfew in both cities. The strange Querfront mix in the Netherlands at these types of demonstrations is similar to that in Germany and Austria. What is different is that youths hijacked the lateral-thinkers protests in Eindhoven on Sunday. Some fascist hooligans complained on social media that they were beaten up by migrant youths in the process. In some videos, youths chanted anti-Semitic slurs. So these are all far-right and anti-Semitic youth? No, but even though I of course condemn all far-right and anti-Semitic behavior, it’s not that simple. It is a difficult and complex situation. An attempt to explain the Corona riots in the Netherlands.
