Jae Em Carico: What got you initially interested and active in social justice?
Zac Henson: It’s hard to put my finger on because I think it was a gradually process. I wasn’t always a community organizer. In my early adulthood, I was an auto mechanic and a plant work, which I got really tired of because of shithead, oppressive bosses and terrible, dirty and hot working conditions. I went to Auburn University at 24 mostly because I just wanted to try something different and because I loved Auburn football. Barbarians by Chris and Odotheus is a text of some importance for anarchists and anyone else who sincerely desires the destruction of this social world of exploitation and domination. It presents a devastating critique of a book that has become one of the most significant theoretical influences on a major part so-called anti-globalisation movement, Empire by Michael Hardt and Antonio Negri. Hardt and Negri claim to be post-dialectical and post-Marxist. It merely takes a slight rip of the veil to expose a historical determinism and a rigid dialectic of class struggle that reflects one of the crudest versions of Marxism.

On March 3 there will be a demonstration in solidarity with Afrin in Berlin. People from across Germany will come to Berlin and the difference with many other demonstrations in solidarity with Afrin is that many German organizations and initiatives are also calling for the demonstration. This comes after German police authorities again and again demonstrations in solidarity with Afrin and police authorities in Cologne even announced that they will ban all future demonstrations that are organized by the Kurdish NAV_DEM association. Immediately after the announcement by the police authorities in Cologne, Facebook started to censor postings on the NAV-DEM Facebook page.

On Saturday, February 10th, multiple groups of fascists and far-right conservatives converged in Seattle, WA (occupied Duwamish territory) at Red Square in the center of UW’s campus. A call for anarchists and anti-fascists to oppose this gathering was posted nearly a week prior. The occasion for such a gathering was a “Freedom Rally” that the UW College Republicans had invited Joey Gibson and his group Patriot Prayer from Vancouver, WA to attend. The fascist creep that has been edging its way into the patriot movement for the last several years in the pacific northwest has been well documented by Rose City Antifa, among others. With this in mind, anarchists and anti-fascists took it upon themselves to organize last-minute efforts to sabotage this gathering of fascists and their more center-leaning accomplices. Sure enough, a handful of different fascist and fascist-leaning right-wing groups converged together on campus; The Cascade Legion, Proud Boys, Patriot Prayer, UW College Republicans and various groups of militia-wannabes who patrolled the perimeter of Red Square in their olive-green army fatigues.
