Leipzig, Germany: Freedom for Lina!

Leipzig, Germany has a neo-nazi problem. The International Violent Hate Crimes Research Project documented enough violent attacks by neo-nazis and the far right in that small city in 2020 to mark it as one of worst cities in Europe for right wing extremist violence. Obviously, this is a grave public safety emergency that most people would think the police would devote themselves to tackling.

The Fools and the Wise – By Jacques Ranciere

Jacques Ranciere reflects on the end of the Trump presidency and asks how this decline into unreason reconstructed what democracy means.

“Rather than the comfort of indignation or derision, the events that marked the end of Donald Trump’s presidency should prompt us to take a somewhat closer look at the forms of thought we call rational and the forms of community we call democratic.”

Fascists and Covid Deniers in Vienna

Vienna. Austria. What happened on January 16 2021 afternoon in Vienna was a disgrace. It has taken me some time to process this, but there is no way that this can be allowed to remain unchallenged, or even just uncommented. Just to be perfectly clear, I entirely agree that there are more than enough reasons to criticise the neo-liberal response to this pandemic. The fact that public life has been shut down almost entirely for so long and all the insecurity that comes with that, is incredibly potent fuel for anger. Of course it is. I am angry too. I am sad too. I have no idea what will happen next, and that is an absolutely terrible situation to be in. But the reaction we saw in Vienna was sickening.

100 Anti-Fascists Rally In Montpelier – Armed Fascists Are A No-Show

Montpelier. Vermont. On November 3rd Trump lost the Presidential election in Vermont by a wider margin than in any other State in the union. But that did not prevent a couple dozen (peaceful) pro-Trump supporter from demonstrating in front of the Statehouse on January 6th. It was also feared that Trump’s lack of support in the Green Mountains would not prevent a minority of armed extremists from committing acts of violence today in our Capital.

The Bud Light Putsch (or the storming of the US Capitol)

The irruption of a medley of fascist, far right, white supremacist, and conspiracy QAnon groups and individuals into the US Capitol building shows the profound malaise reigning in the United States, aggravated by four years of Trump’s promotion of reactionary ideas and policies on a whole range of issues. Those who took part in the invasion of the Capitol presented an alliance of interests that went across class. So, you could find a CEO of a data analysis company, an owner of a supermarket chain, and an attorney, a lawyer and police officers, alongside teachers, college professors, real estate brokers (estate agents), firefighters, bartenders and tattoo artists.

On the Permitted Fascist Temper Tantrum That Caught the World’s Eye: An Anarchist Response to the January 6th Melee in DC

So much could be said about the spectacle recently witnessed at Washington, DC’s federal capitol building, however we will write a quick statement, hoping to further understand the situation as well as to assert a need on behalf of comrades in the States who face both imminent and ongoing grassroots violence and parallel state repression. Essentially, what we saw was not an insurrection or revolt; what the world witnessed was a permitted fascist temper tantrum.
