False front – To oppose Putinism what is needed is a new emancipatory universalism

The invasion of Ukraine is part of a large-scale offensive by an authoritarian regime driven by the sinister conviction that it must remake the entire world order in its own image. This offensive is directed not just against one country, but against everything that, in Putin’s eyes and in those of his followers, embodies the „degenerate West“. This includes, in particular, „sexual decadence,“ i.e. homosexuality, and so-called gender ideology, as well as the purported disintegration of „traditional cultural values.” Underpinning this is an openly fascist ideology, as the Moscow sociologist Greg Yudin, for one, correctly pointed out.

Misconceptions about imperialism, and anarchist collective traumas [Ukraine] – By Antti Rautiainen

An interesting piece by Antti Rautiainen. We don’t share everything in this article, but we think it is an important contribution to the discussion about the war in Ukraine (and beyond) and the position of parts of the left and some anarchists* on this war, especially in Western countries. Enough 14.

Birthed in torment: From Ukrainian Modernity to post-capitalism

Some ten years ago, Slavoj Žižek popularized the simplified paraphrasing of the quote from Antonio Gramsci’s “Prison Notebooks” that goes as follows: “The crisis consists precisely in the fact that the old is dying and the new cannot be born; in this interregnum a great variety of morbid symptoms appear.”Now, almost a century later, we are struggling against the same “morbid symptoms” this Italian thinker wrote about back then: fascism, the flag of which became Vlasov’s tricolor; various imperialisms which deny agency to the “small nations”; and capital, which has no values other than the maximizing of profits.

Ukraine: The changing situation and firm theoretical points

A text by the French-Belgian group Mouvement Communiste on armed resistance in Ukraine. Mouvement Communiste argue that the resistance has to be seen as an armed democratic movement and that the imperialist war can only be turned into class war if the war continues, while both the Ukrainian and Russian state get weakened.

Transition into a “Green” World? Necro-Industry, Climate Trauma, and Radical Healing

There are more and more people who have lived in a catastrophe all their lives. The promise of a transition to a “green” world may seem like an escapist drug to them, but the hangover is unavoidable and what we are left with is nothing other than to set collective healing processes in motion, argues researcher Irina Velicu in her contribution to the BG’s “After Extractivism” text series.
