Attempted squatting action on Graven Street and police brutality [Amsterdam, Netherlands]

Amsterdam. Netherlands. September 12. 2021. Today there was an attempt to squat the premises at Gravenstraat 26-28 on the day of the housing protests. Thousands of people took the streets to demonstrate against the so-called housing crisis – the scarcity and exploitation on the housing market, the shortage of affordable housing and the disproportionate increase in rents.

Berlin: Don’t vote! Attack the city of the rich!

Berlin. August 2021, just before the elections, and yet another project is threatened, a bookstore was evicted, up to 10 houses per day are being evicted, the biggest german real estate company (vonovia) is buying the second biggest (Deutche Wohnen) creating an economic and real estate colossus. A situation that is proving spectacularly that the interests of capital will always take precedence over people’s needs, and that reform will always fail.

Oshawa, Ontario: Stop Gentrification In Our City

Oshawa. Ontario. April 22 the city of Oshawa bulldozed the community-led Memorial Garden, which stood in downtown Oshawa for nearly two years. Made by unsheltered community members, the memorial originally started to commemorate those lost to the opioid crisis and drug overdoses. It grew to be a community memorial for anyone lost to drug overdoses, suicide, untreated illness or other ails from poverty and capitalism.

Berlin, Neukölln: Rally against gentrification

Berlin. Neukölln. Gentrification is becoming more and more prevalent in the area of Neukolln. From the restaurants in the so called “Kreuzkolln” area, to the bars on Weserstrasse; from the “Karstadt” at Hermannplatz to all over around Schillerkiez. The newest eyesore of the luxury development under construction “Kalle Neukolln,” brings the issue of gentrification even closer to our neighborhood.

Portland, Oregon: To the Barricades – The Red House and the Future of Eviction Defense

Portland, Oregon has been in the headlines again over the last few days, and this trend will continue.  The reasons for the headlines will vary depending on who you ask.  If you ask the far right they will say something about Antifa terrorists having violent confrontations with the police because they hate law and order.  The mainstream media’s headlines will also tend to lead with the so-called violent clashes, but then they may inform us that the reasons for the confrontation have to do with folks trying to prevent the eviction of a Black and indigenous family that has lived in the Red House at 4406 North Mississippi for multiple generations.
