Call for donations for anarchists in Indonesia

Our friends in Indonesia asked us to translate the following text and distribute it with an attached appeal for donations. Even if the text does not come directly from anarchists and certainly needs a critique in some points, it still reflects the spread and deeper radicalism of the resistance against the omnibus law. The resistance against capitalism, state and neoliberal reforms is strong in Indonesia and culminates in efforts to build a counter-movement to parliamentary politics. But repression by the state and its reactionary supporters is intensifying as well, with many people imprisoned, deported, injured, or in hiding. Of course, the situation is particularly serious during the ongoing pandemic.

Anarchist Prisoners Sentenced in #Tangerang and #Bekasi, #Indonesia

Indonesia. Anarchist prisoners Muhammad Riski Riyanto Bin Abdul Syukur and Rio Imanuel Adolof Pattinama were sentenced to 10 months of prison in Tangerang. Anarchist prisoner Rizki Julianda was sentenced to 8 months of prison in Bekasi.

#Jakarta is returning: The ‘neoliberal cookbook’ that guides #Indonesia’s Omnibus Bills

Indonesia. Amidst a global wave of pandemic, widespread dispossession, and mass uprising, numerous states have seized the moment to ram through national security laws. In comparison, Indonesia’s proposed slate of Omnibus Bills, focused primarily on economic reform, has flown somewhat under the radar. But President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) is also taking advantage of this moment of crisis: These sweeping bills that aim to regulate various sectors under one umbrella have no basis in Indonesia’s Civil Law system. Instead, Jokowi is using the chaos caused by the failure of his own administration to consolidate power in the central government in order to push the bills forward with little to no civilian oversight.
