Combatting the industrial prison complex by advocating decriminalization of illicit drug use in Nashville

Nashville, Tennessee–  On February 6th, 2018 local residents converged on the Cordell Hull Building in Nashville, Tennessee to encourage the Commissioner to support a bill that would effectively decriminalize marijuana use.  Local anarchists and antifascists (Nashville AntiFa, Nashville Anarchist Black Cross, and Middle Tennessee Autonomous Network) gathered to advocate for this bill.  Although the vast majority of citizens attending were advocating decriminalization to facilitate the utility of medical and recreational cannabis, anarchist and antifascist support was largely predicated on the fact that this bill would be an important cap in the prison pipeline for petty drug crimes.

Although anarchists do not seek to beg an authoritarian government for personal rights, this rally was an important event in which our collectives could engage in thoughtful dialogue and educate others in our community about the prison industrial complex, which profits from arresting non-violent marijuana users, and to advocate personal freedom and bodily autonomy.  “Our collectives firmly believe the government has no right to tell you what you can or cannot do with your own body,” one anarchist stated to a rally attendee. Nashville Anarchists Stand with Local Kurdish Community in Solidarity with Rojava and Afrin

Nashville, Tennessee–  Nashville is a vibrant, diverse city largely due to the fact that it has historically welcomed the resettlement of refugees.  Nashville has a large, and burgeoning Kurdish population.  As of 2017, there were approximately 15,000 Kurds living in Nashville of the estimated 40,000 that reside in the entire United States, effectively making the Nashville Kurdish community the largest concentration of Kurds in the country.

Supremacist Graffiti Revised by Local Anarchists and Anti-Fascists in Nashville Tennessee

Nashville – The word “Eugenics” spray painted on an underpass was spotted by local community members, and reported to the activist community.  Within 24 hours, local anarchists and anti-fascists deployed and beautified the area.  They revised the offending message, and made it clear that the neighborhood is an anti-racist zone.

Fuck eugenics.

Fuck white supremacy.
