Merry Crisis and a Happy New Fear – Repression and Resistance in #Greece, December 2019

Continuing our coverage of the struggle in Greece between the new repressive New Democracy government and the longstanding anarchist movement, we present the following report, drawing on eyewitness accounts from street mobilizations and the defense of several squats. The Greek state continues to throw its full weight behind an all-out assault on refugees, anarchists, and student movements, encouraging gratuitous police brutality against both human beings and their animal companions while seeking to exonerate right-wing murderers including members of the Neo-Nazi party Golden Dawn who faced conspiracy charges in the murder of Pavlos Fyssas and the police officer who murdered the 15-year-old anarchist Alexis Grigoropoulos 11 years ago this month.

#Athens: Over 10,000 on Demo to Commemorate #Alexis – Tear Gas and Police Brutality in #Exarcheia

Here is a short report from last weekend in Athens, where a lot of things happened. On one hand the ultimatum of the government ended, according to which all squatters should leave the buildings until December 5th, and on December 6th the anniversary of the death of Alexis, who was shot by a cop in Exarchia in 2008 at the age of 15.

December 6, 2008, a few minutes after 09:00pm: Time zero of the December revolt

Athens. Exarcheia. December 6, 2008, a few minutes after 9 pm – Time Zero of the December Revolt. Two policemen draw their guns and one of them shoots against a group of youngsters. The police bullet finds in the heart and kills 15 year old Alexandros Grigoropoulos. What follows is a video of the first 60 minutes of the revolt.

#Athens: Against the attacks of the State and capital, our uprising will become their nightmare – Call for demos on 5th and 6th of December

Athens. On Thursday 5th December,the Ministry of Public Order’s deadline to “remove squatters” from their homes expires. On this day, we are calling on everyone to protest against the repression, not recognizing any decision of the state or ultimatum of the Ministry of Public Order. On Friday the 6th of December we also march in memory of the 2008 uprising for the murder of Alexis Grigoropoulos.
