Riot in #Athens: The Orwellian ban on gatherings of more than 3 people leads to riots all over #Greece [Video]

Athens. Greece. 17 November 2020: On the day commemorating the bloodied student revolt against the dictatorship back in 1973, this is how the right-wing government in Greece honored the dead of the fascist regime. By banning all gatherings of more than 3 people, something that has happened in Greece for the first time in its modern history, on the 21 April 1967 when there was a fascist military coup d’état and on 17 November 1973 during a student revolt against the military junta of that same regime.

A gloomy atmosphere in #Athens on November 17

Athens. Greece. After banning any gathering of more than four people on the streets and any commemoration of the November 17, 1973 uprising using language similar to that of the junta, the ND government yesterday violently dissolved all gatherings and demonstration attempts throughout the country.

#Athens: Riot cops entered #Polytechnio – Cop terror in #Exarcheia

Athens. Greece. Yesterday afternoon (November 12, 2020) , the Polytechnio in Athens was entered by anarchist and student groups and individuals to enforce an opening during the three-day commemoration of November 17, 1973. Prior to this, the planned lockout had been leaked by the university management starting today, November 13. De facto the Polytechnio has been closed for months for political activities and is often a checkpoint for OPKE (cops) jeeps. There are no more events taking place there.

Notara 26: Five years of solidarity and resistance

Athens. Greece. The story has been told many times now. We have heard, witnessed, and lived it in the past five years. In 2015, with the onset of mass migration and what was called the “refugee crisis” we saw the political, social, and urban landscapes of many places change—including Athens, Greece. The events touched and affected the public and private lives of many. The beginning of Noara26 points to one of those moments. A time when a group of people, with ideals and politics of self-organization, collective action, and solidarity were moved to occupy an empty public building in the city’s downtown and to create a place of shelter and safety for thousands of refugees who were abandoned in the streets of Athens.
