Usme, Bogotá, Colombia: Dozens injured in twelve hours of repression

Bogotá. Usme. Colombia. May 27. 2021. This Wednesday, May 26, police repression was brutal in the protests that took place in Usme, in the south of Bogota. The police attacked the protest at 11:00 a.m., however, the demonstrators remained in the streets for almost twelve hours. This day resulted in cases of people missing, threatened and almost 200 got injured.

Bogotá, Colombia: The Portal of Resistance and dignified rage

Bogotá. Colombia. May 24. 2021. “You are a liar, talking shit. The cops are breaking into houses every night and gassing without caring if there are children, elderly or sick” a protester at the Portal de la Resistencia (Portal Américas) said to the Secretary of the Government of Bogotá, Luis Ernesto Gómez, after he did not accept any responsibility for the abuses that have been committed against protesters during the National Strike at this location.

The Situation in #Bogotá, #Colombia: Synopsis of Urban Uprising

Bogotá. Colombia. On Tuesday night in Bogotá, the police killed Javier Ordoñez, a lawyer and taxi driver, father of two. He was hanging out in his neighborhood, having a drink with friends. The police beat him, tasered him 12 times with 50,000 watts, and suffocated him while he was screaming, “Por favor, no mas!” (Please, No More!) until he became unconscious. He was taken while unconscious to a C.A.I. where police beat him to death. (CAI – Centro de Atencion Inmediata – are police huts that operate in each neighborhood of Bogotá).
