Wuppertal. Germany.On August 16, activists of Cars of Hope will drive to Ukraine again. It will be their fourth aid delivery in the war-torn country. They will bring necessary goods like Tourniquets, IFAK -First Aid Kits, Burnshield Rescue Kits (für die Versorgung von Brandwunden), face masks for burn care, Israeli Emergency Bandages, medicines and other items that are needed in Ukraine. Cars of Hope will first drive to Kyiv and then to Kharkiv.

“I heard those horrible noises, crashes, screams, and when people started running, I joined them” – An interview with Kristina and Stas from Kharkiv [Ukraine]

Activists of the Cars of Hope (COH) collective talked several times with two street musicians in Lviv, Ukraine. They had met them on the streets of Lviv and became friends. They laughed, drank and talked a lot together. There were also a few tears. An interview.

After the Cars of Hope activists left Lviv, Stas suffered a minor stroke. Stas and Kristina need support for medical treatment. You can find out how to support Stas below the interview.

Cars of Hope: Repression of migrants, aid workers and solidarity activists is a “normal” practise in Europe, but we will continue to support people on the Balkan route – Next week we will travel to #Greece

Greece. Today the Greek ministry of migration announced that food distribution to refugees is now banned for all NGO’s on Lesvos. The ministery threatened to fine everyone that is trying to provide food and water to the people queueing for hours in the baking hot sun in front of the new camp. The Cars of Hope collective experienced a lot of repression against people who supported refugees on the Balkan route in the past years, but continued their work. Soon they will return to Greece. Cars of Hope back to #Greece again to support #RefugeesGR: We need your support!

Most people will have seen them, the pictures and videos of police violence on the Greek-Turkish border in Evros. Rubber dinghies in distress that are ignored by Frontex ships, while the Greek Coast Guard literally attacks the rubber dinghies. Shots are fired both in the Aegean Sea and at the Greek/Turkish land border in Evros. Many of these shots are warning shots, but there are first casualties and deaths both on land and at sea. People who have died from bullets or who drowned.

After parliamentary elections in #Greece: new government threatens #RefugeesGR

The new Greek government ist threatening squats and the anarchist movement on the Greek territory. In particular the free spaces in the Exarchia neighbourhood in Athens. Migrants are also under even more pressure comparing to the last government. Let’s not forget that it was the Syriza government who started the first wave of evictions of migrant squats.
