the work.

Class War Daily 16 April 2020: The long arm of the law under #lockdown

UK. THE POLICE are clearly under instruction to find and log as many instances as possible of people failing to adhere to the government’s hugely vague and contradictory instructions on social distancing that people are OVERWHELMINGLY adhering to as best they can.

Class War Daily 15 April 2020: Tories tout another decade of cuts – Get ready for more austerity

UK. YESTERDAY the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rishi Sunak, told the media that he wanted to be “honest about the hardship ahead”. This is more evidence that the Tories have not suddenly swung to the left just because they’ve increased public spending to such levels it even gets Momentum members aroused.

#UK Class War Daily 14 April: Fuck off back to bed, Lazarus: No tears for this clown

UK. WE KNOW THE DEATHS are being underreported. We know that those who die in care homes or in the community are not yet being counted; people with underlying conditions are not recorded as corona cases. Even with all those caveats, we have been seeing nearly a thousand deaths a day. Every one of those deaths is a grieving family – all too often, children mourning the loss of a parent. And at the height of this crisis, among all the horrors it entailed, we were expected to give thanks that Boris Johnson had come out of intensive care.

Class War Daily 13 April 2020: The government’s message to NHS staff – It’s your fault – You’re at risk

UK. A SHORTAGE of personal protective equipment is leaving NHS workers at risk – so far over 20 have died of Covid-19. But in Friday’s press briefing, health minister Matt Hancock blamed care staff themselves for the shortage, accusing them of misusing it. Here’s what he said: “There’s enough PPE to go round, but only if it’s used in line with our guidance. We need everyone to treat PPE like the precious resource that it is. That means only using it when there’s a clinical need, and not using more than is needed… Many items of PPE can be used for a whole session, not be changed after treating each individual patient.” He then repeated: “There’s enough PPE to go round.”

Class War Daily Friday 10 April 2020 – Spirit of 1945: No Going Back

UK. THE GENERAL SPIRIT of,demobbed soldiers “they got us into the war and we had dig them out of it”, resulting in a massive Labour victory. People who had fought for six years – my dad – were not going to go back to feeling inferior to their “betters”. A new spirit of “we’re as good as they are” was pervasive in the working class. —- Flanagan and Allen provided the mood music. One result was a mass squatting movement by demobbed soldiers and their families, involving hundreds of thousands seizing empty houses and ministry of defence buildings. —- Now we must also adopt a NO GOING BACK attitude. Are all of our working class heroes who have sacrificed so much – bus drivers, nurses, shop assistants, cleaners etc etc – going to go meekly back to the status quo and the huge wealth divide?

Class War 09/2019: #YellowVests

We published recently on our blog, as we had access to them and they reached us, some documents produced by and around the “yellow vest” movement that has been shaking France since several weeks. The following is a kind of introduction to all of them (an introduction that we usually publish before, indeed).

#Anarchism #UK: The Class War Newspaper is Back!

Britain’s most unruly tabloid is making a comeback. First off though I should explain that I’m involved with this and will likely write something for the publication. So with that disclaimer out the way let’s take a look at what is going on.

classwarnewspaper

For this edition of his monthly column Jon Bigger writes on what’s happening with the forthcoming relaunch of notorious anarchist paper Class War and looks over some of the encouraging signs of people getting spiky in recent weeks.
