Usme, Bogotá, Colombia: Dozens injured in twelve hours of repression

Bogotá. Usme. Colombia. May 27. 2021. This Wednesday, May 26, police repression was brutal in the protests that took place in Usme, in the south of Bogota. The police attacked the protest at 11:00 a.m., however, the demonstrators remained in the streets for almost twelve hours. This day resulted in cases of people missing, threatened and almost 200 got injured.

Bogotá, Colombia: The Portal of Resistance and dignified rage

Bogotá. Colombia. May 24. 2021. “You are a liar, talking shit. The cops are breaking into houses every night and gassing without caring if there are children, elderly or sick” a protester at the Portal de la Resistencia (Portal Américas) said to the Secretary of the Government of Bogotá, Luis Ernesto Gómez, after he did not accept any responsibility for the abuses that have been committed against protesters during the National Strike at this location.

Colombia: Demonstration and brutal repression in Bucaramanga on May 19

Colombia. Bucaramanga. May 19. 2021.The city of Bucaramanga experienced a complicated day after security forces violently repressed demonstrations by residents this Wednesday, May 19. Human rights organizations reported more than 30 people injured, including one person with an eye injury from an ESMAD (Colombian riot cops) weapon, and several arrests in the Bucaramanga metropolitan area.

Bucaramanga, Colombia: The strike continues

Colombia. Bucaramanga. May 11. 2021. For almost two weeks, citizens have been mobilized through cultural expressions that have filled the days of protest organized during the National Strike in the city. Marches, concerts, community kitchens and educational workshops have all contributed to a strong mobilization that continues in spite of the state terrorism against those who protest.

Twelve days of Resistance in Colombia

The social explosion unleashed by the project of a new Tax Reform in the country has left the streets full of people painting, dancing and shouting “No More” to the failed government of Iván Duque and the policies of death and violence that have been implemented, and which have worsened during these days of social mobilization.
