Kingston. ON. September 1. 2020. Today the City of Kingston carried out their threat of eviction at Belle Park.  By-law officers and the police taped off all entrances to the park, and initially wouldn’t let supporters or residents in to pack up or claim belongings. Due to pressure from community supporters and allies, residents were allowed into the park to pack their things.

#Kingston, #Ontario: Update from Belle Park

The following is an update from Mutual Aid Katarokwi’s Facebook Page about a recent meeting between houseless residents of the Belle Park camp and the City of Kingston officials. For several weeks, ~40 people have been camped out in the parking lot of Belle Park following shelter closures amidst the COVID-19 crisis. The City opened a new shelter outside of the downtown area but many are refusing to live under the restrictive conditions in place, and feel safer together. Also see the recent Radio Pandemic episode about the evolving situation.

#Kingston, #Ontario: Report from #ShutDownCanada Action

Kingston. ON. February 11, 2020. In response to the ongoing raid on Wet’suwet’en territory, more than 100 people gathered yesterday in a downtown park. After a couple of speeches the crowd piled onto two packed schoolbuses and a few extra cars and headed to the train tracks. The original plan was to shut down the rails, but Mohawks at Tyendinaga have held the line closed since Thursday despite being served an injunction from CN Rail. As the action got nearer, we decided to proceed whether or not the lines were still closed, to show our solidarity with everyone shutting down critical infrastructure across Canada.
