#Berlin: Dancing In the Rain – #Liebig34

Berlin. October 9. 2020. The crowd pushes itself loudly through the narrow alley towards Hackescher Markt, with just one squad of riot cops in front. The drizzle has started right on time, the wetness creeps through the cracks and pores, making the legs clammy. The alley cats have sought shelter under a ledge, pull out their smartphones, smiles on their faces, something different than the usual tourist faces. Hundreds additional riot cops, federal police and others from outide of Berlin stream out of their staging areas. The first mistake: arrogance. Never underestimate a weakened opponent.

Berlin. Tomorrow the Liebig34 is to be evicted. A place of feminist self-organization, neighbor and ally. A symbol of the struggle against oppression by capitalist patriarchy. We have decided that we will not accept this situation without a fight. We also decided not to wait until the preparation phase of the cops is over. Berlin. The anticapitalist struggle is an intersectional one. Liebig34 provides a perfect example. In their fight against housing being a commodity, capitalism and patriarchy, they have been a symbol for radical queer feminism for 30 years. Now, the project is faced with the threat of eviction. Being the valuable and inspiring project that Liebig34 has been, it cannot be taken away. Liebig34 stays!
