Australia: Join the Refugee Action Collective for a vigil and protest to mark the death of yet another refugee on Manus Island.
The Melbourne Anarchist Communist Group supports the struggles of refugees, who are simply demanding their legal rights to asylum. We call on the union movement in Australia, sections of which have quite reasonable refugee policies, to act on them and come to the refugees’ defence. We look forward to a workers’ revolution which will create a single federal world community with freedom of movement for everyone. And in the meantime, we support the work of the Close the Camps Action Collective: https://www.facebook.com/Close-the-Camps-Action-Collective-1741130979474102/ (Warning Facebook link).
Music is therapy and this is being recognised more and more these days. If you are stuck on a remote pacific island in hellish conditions the outlet provided by music can really help you to stay positive and fulfil some of your dreams amid dank oppression. A refugee who has been accomplishing much while indefinitely incarceration is Farhad Bandesh, a Kurd who escaped from Iran’s draconian Islamic regime only to have the lead boot of another crush him again.
Ex-detainees request to take a stand during end of year holiday events and bring to the forefront the forgotten people in our community being tortured, refouled and abused by the Australian government while mainstream Australia celebrates this “festive” season. Statement by RISE eX-detainee Team.
On Thursday November 24 a small island in the middle of the pacific made world headlines, but not because of its natural beauty.
Today members of the Refugee Rights Action Network and Whistleblowers Activist Citizens Alliance Western Australia (WACA WA) have barricaded the doors to the Department of Immigration and Border Protection in Perth in solidarity with the men on Manus who have barricaded themselves inside the detention centre on Lombrum Naval Base in PNG.

A group of refugee supporters have barricaded the entrance to Customs House, 1010 LaTrobe Street, Docklands, where the Australian Border Force is headquartered. The action is in support of refugees and asylum seekers on Manus Island who have barricaded themselves into the immigration detention centre since its closure on October 31.

RISE ex-detainees urgently requests protests and other actions to be held next Tuesday, 7th November 2017 on Melbourne Cup day, a high profile international event, to bring to the world’s attention the escalating crisis faced by detainees held hostage by the Australian government on Manus Island in Papua New Guinea. We also ask our supporters to carry out protests and actions internationally on the day at Australian embassies across the world to show your solidarity with our community and #SanctionAustralia for their crimes against humanity.
