March & April 2021: “Our Hatred for the Police Will Bring Us Together” [Greece]

Greece. We have reported so much on the always changing situation out here as it is of concern to anarchists. These reports reflect our priorities as an anarchist collective that waves a purely black flag, and also our own experiences or perspectives on what is happening around us. In the past we overwhelmed ourselves, and likely the reader as well, trying our best to discuss ‘everything’. However we want to use these reports to make more targeted reporting. We take responsibility for missing things, however our intention is to raise cross border solidarity, and inform others to both better understand the situation here, and relate it to their own. Greece: A smell of November 17, 1973 – Dimitris Koufontinas: “I continue my hunger strike until justice is done”

Greece. Wednesday, March 10, 2021. Dimitris Koufontinas is still alive. Tension does not decrease in Athens. Tonight, another police officer has been attacked, this time in Patras. The Mitsotakis government is in a deadlock.

Riots in Athens, in turn the Council of State rejects the request of Koufontinas, Rouvikonas in the cross hairs of power

Athens. Greece. Tuesday, March 9, 2021. Dimitris Koufontinas is still alive. Revolts multiply against the arrogance of power and fierce repression. The number of wounded is high, including a policeman who is seriously injured.

Athens: “The cops out of our neighborhoods” – Demo in Nea Smyrni district after increasing police violence [Video & report]

Athens. Nea Smyrni. It all started at noon on Sunday March 7, 2021 when police officers approached families who had gone out for their Sunday walk in the square of Nea Smyrni, a district in Athens, and started to impose fines, despite the fact that people were wearing masks. When other residents started to protest, the police responded with violence. As residents rushed to help the families, they were treated like enemies. Dozens of additional cops on motorbikes came to reinforce the ones that were already there and started to attack everybody, chasing, beating and arresting 11 people in the grove of Nea Smyrni and around it.
