#Athens: Can’t Pay? Don’t Pay! KEEP YOUR RENT – DEMO

Athens. Greece. We take to the streets to demonstrate as tenants and workers, regardless of ethnicity, race and gender. We take to the streets because more and more people can’t pay their rent. We take to the streets, because more and more people are threatened with eviction. We take to the streets, as we can’t continue working all day long for shitty wages and spend most of our salary on rent. We take to the streets, because the greek state is eager to listen and legislate for the sake of bosses and landlords, while we, as tenants, remain invisible and vulnerable.

No Quarter for Property! Build the Rent Strike

Because you don’t own anything, you have to give money every month to have the right to live under a roof: that’s rent. Rent is nothing but monthly wage-theft, money we’ll never see again. That’s why the question of housing in the capitalist economy has always been linked to the question of work. Because we are forced to work in order to survive, we are forced to live where we find work. This is why many of us live close to places of production or places where commodities circulate, i.e. in big cities, where rents are, as we know, particularly high.
