In Defense of Malik Washington – Supporters Stand Strong at Protest in San Francisco, California

San Francisco. California. SF Bay View Editor Malik Washington is a resident of a halfway house that is one of many private re-entry and prison facilities run by the Geo Group. Washington publicly documented a preventable COVID outbreak at the halfway house, and as a result is being repressed by the Geo Group in multiple ways. More than 20 speakers and about 200 people attended a rally on March 7 to stand up for him and for the cause of black journalism.

We’ve all probably heard the relevant sayings, “One bad apple, can ruin the whole bunch” and “The fruit doesn’t fall far from the tree!” Yes, the tree being symbolic and indicative of the root, i.e., the very essence from whence the lone apple originated or fell. That’s the nature of what we’re actually confronted with in terms of the orientation which is systematically ingrained and promoted – i.e., reinforced – as regards law enforcement across the fascist-authoritarian board.

Shaka Shakur: Faultlines of National Oppression and Class Contradictions

Oppressive power, oppressive governments, the elites, the privileged, those who benefit from the status quo and the institutions that move to protect, facilitate and reinforce the status quo always move to kkkriminalize those who rebel against or attack them. This has been the case throughout history. Those in power – particularly oppressive power – get to make the rules and have those rules legitimized, often through force or coercion: prison.
