Tacoma. WA. The night of 1/23 a video went viral of Tacoma pigs breaking up a side show and ramming thru a crowd, directly running over one person. Two people ended up hospitalized from this event. I’m not interested in discourse on whether people were blocking the car, attacking it, or the police were ‘afraid for their lives’ or whatever. One month in, the encampment at the Northwest Detention Center immigration prison in Tacoma continues. While it has been much lower profile than #occupyicepdx, it is the site of the largest immigration prison on the west coast. Prisoners inside have repeatedly engaged in hunger strikes and other forms of resistance over the years.
A growing encampment has established itself at the Northwest Detention Center immigration prison in Tacoma. People have been camping out for several nights now, sharing food, making friends, and building capacity toward abolishing ICE and ending the violent horror of borders. There is free food, a badminton net, free literature, engaging conversation, and lots more. Every day at 9am and 9pm is a family-friendly noise demo for the prisoners inside, and there’s lots of room for other forms of solidarity and resistance as well.
